Summary "This research program has been undertaken to develop a laboratory testing procedure for the measurement of pore water pressure induced by the static loading of a model friction pile. Most of the investigation involved the design, construction, and testing of equipment to be used during the tests which would produce satisfactory and reliable results. It was also desired to simulate field conditions during the tests. A series of tests were performed varying the consolidation pressure on the soil around the model pile. The effects of changing the location of the pore pressure measurements was also investigated. Results of the tests when compared with field observations indicated: 1) An appropriate method for the measurement of induced pore water pressures around model piles in the laboratory has been developed and 2) Laboratory tests as described in this thesis can reasonable estimate pile behavior in the field"--Abstract, leaf ii.
