Summary "Since about 1890, the interest in solubility has turned to a large extent to the investigation of the solubility of compounds in organic solvents. This has resulted in a great deal of work being done on the solubility of inorganic salts in non-aqueous solvents. As this mass of data steadily accumulated, the theoretical considerations of solubility and the ideal solution made rapid advances, as Hildebrand has pointed out. We express as much wonder over these theoretical advances as chemists did over the discover "that salts do dissolve in organic compounds". To add some useful data to that already accumulated on the solubility of inorganic salts in organic solvents, this investigation of carbon disulfide solutions was undertaken"--Introduction, leaf 1.
