Summary "The desired result of this paper is a method of calculating transient temperatures in an infinite plate. The resulting equations are general to the extent possible for aerodynamic heating and radiation boundary conditions. The possible methods of calculation were investigated, and it was felt that a numerical analysis presented the most feasible approach. Numerical analysis was employed to arrive at a series of equations for calculating the temperatures at selected positions in an infinite plate. A study was then made to determine a method of solving these equations by means of some high speed computing device. The equations were adapted for use by the digital computer located in the Missouri School of Mines Computer Center. Two example problems were programmed and the results are included in this paper. This data is displayed in a series of curves depicting temperature as a function of time and location within a plate"--Abstract, leaf 2.
