| Summary |
"There are two methods of arriving at the refractoriness of a rock. One is the physical, the other is the chemical. The physical methods attempt to determine it directly by subjecting it to heat, and the temperature obtained is registered by use of numerous methods, a type of each kind I will describe in this paper. The chemical methods attempt to arrive at the result by calculations based upon a chemical analysis, though one or more physical determinations have to be made as a basis for these calculations. As the former method is direct, my operations are based upon this method and the chemical analysis, together with the density, are used to locate cause rather than to determine the fusing point"--leaf [1]. |
