Description [i]. 22 leaves : illustrations
Summary "The writer's attention was called to the necessity of knowing the accuracy attainable in surveying which must depend upon the Meridian, and therefore be subject to the accuracy of it, in seeking information by which to decide what would be the most desirable transit to use in the West, particularly for United States Deputy Mineral Surveying. Descriptions of the manipulation, adjustments, and the cost, etc., of the various appliances are plentiful in the text-books on surveying and in the various catalogues; but there was no very definite information in regard to the actual probable and average accuracy, especially in the case of Solar attachments at different hours of the day, and to determine this as well as possible, in the brief time allowed is the object of this investigation"--leaf [1].
