"EMAP5 is a numerical software package designed to solve electromagnetic problems. It is a hybrid finite-element/moment-method code. The finite element method is applied to model the fields within a volume while the method of moments is used to model the fields exterior to the volume. The two methods are coupled by equating the tangential fields on the boundary. This thesis presents new applications of the EMAP5 code. Two examples are provided to demonstrate the application of EMAP5 to scattering and radiation problems. One example consists of perfect conducting and dielectric spheres in free space. The other is a microstrip patch antenna. EMAP5 is also used to analyze a canonical problem which includes thin metal surfaces and a thin electrically long wire over a ground plane. This thesis also explores different techniques for solving the sparse matrices generated by EMAP5. Matrix preconditioners are shown to reduce the computation time significantly"--Abstract, leaf iii. |
