"This research focuses on determining the mechanical properties of germanium. Micro-hardness, Fracture Toughness, Modulus of Rupture, Thermal Shock and Young's Modulus were determined for germanium with different dislocation densities, electrical resistivities, and crystallographic orientation. Hardening occurs at the antimony doping levels of 5.0x10¹⁵cm⁻³ and above. The fracture toughness reaches a maximum at a dislocation density of 2500 EPD/cm² where the Weibull modulus goes to a minimum. Etching, which eliminates surface flaws, increases both the value and standard deviation of the modulus-of-rupture. [Delta]T[subscript c] for thermal shock is 125°C whether the germanium is single or polycrystalline etched or unetched"--Abstract, leaf iii. |
