"The goal of this project is to design a chemical barrier that may inhibit the migration of harmful actinides, fission products, and uranium before they are able to migrate out of the immediate area of the spent fuel waste package. This would serve as another barrier to limit radionuclide migration if the other barriers fail, and would basically serve as a transition barrier to slow radionuclide migration into the natural barrier system after breaching of the engineered barrier system occurs.--Introduction, p. 22. |
