| Summary |
"This thesis involves two comparative analysis studies of helical anchor design methodologies and the recommendation of design equations and design factors of safety for Earth Contact Products. The first comparative analysis is a parametric study of three competetive [sic] helical anchor manufacturers' methodologies: A. B. Chance Company, Atlas Systems, Inc., and Dixie Anchoring Systems. Recommendations for Earth Contact Products' design equations are made based upon the results of this study. The second comparative analysis studied the behavior of the recommended design equations using finite element analysis with the computer code Plaxis. Recommendations for minimum factors of safety in cohesionless and cohesive soils are made based upon settlement criteria and the results of the Plaxis analysis. This project as a whole is the result of a contract between Earth Contact Products and the University of Missouri-Rolla. Earth Contact Products is a manufacturer of helical anchors and various other steel products. A design and construction manual has been developed for Earth Contact Products based on the results of this thesis and is included on CD-ROM as Appendix B. Later phases of this project involve the development of computer design software and the study of the buckling capacaty [sic] and lateral capacity of helical anchors"--Abstract, leaf ii. |
