Summary "Many methods have been developed for the creation of surface metal-matrix composites (SMMCs)...This study continues the development of the friction stir processing technique to create SMCCs. It looks at how the processing parameters affect the incorporation of the second phase particles and how they can be optimized to produce a homogenous distribution of the particles within the substrate. It also evaluates tungsten carbide's (WC) ability to improve the hardness and wear resistance of 7050 aluminum."--Introduction, p. 1.
