Summary "The purpose of this thesis is to explore the possibility of utilizing neural network architecture for the detection of excessive vibration, ice accretion on the fan section of a turbo-fan engine, and to monitor engine health through the high-pressure turbine section of the engine. Turbo-fan engines are utilized as the primary propulsion for both the military and commercial aircraft. It is the premise of this paper that present systems for vibration detection are not adequate in providing information to the flight crews about the engine operational health.--Introduction, p. 1.
