Summary "This thesis explores the feasibility of achieving six-sigma availability in power delivery. Several different network topologies and schemes are discussed, which include reduction of fault rate, reduction of repair/restoration time, sectionalization, loop schemes, redundant primary mains, and distributed generation. A software package is developed to evaluate the impact of those schemes on distribution system reliabilty. Tests have been conducted on real utility distribution systems and the test results show that it is feasible to achieve six-sigma distribution system reliability by applying several of the schemes in unison."--Abstract, leaf iii.
