| Summary |
"The Monsanto Soda Springs, Idaho facility uses cast steel slag pots to tap both slag and metal from its furnaces. Both materials are waste products from the production of phosphorus. In the past, the life had averaged 15,000-20,000 taps per pot but since 1990 the life has been reduced to 9,000 taps per pot. The subject of this thesis is to examine, from a metallurgical standpoint, reasons for the reduction in life and provide recommendations to improve current and future pot life."--Abstract, leaf iii. |
