"This thesis focuses on the difficulty the construction industry has had in attracting and recruiting engineering and construction professionals. Many of those who enter the industry are deficient in project management, leadership, and construct-ability skills. Gathering the right kind of personnel to be responsible for multi-million or billion dollar construction projects is necessary for the growth of the industry. The literature indicates that there is consternation amongst firms vying for those few candidates that meet these needs. Why is it that not enough highly educated, top quality, young engineers choose to purse careers in construction: To answer this question, a study has been conducted to determine what factors influence the decision of a college student, in civil engineering, choosing to enter the construction industry and what makes the industry attractive or unattractive"--Abstract, leaf iii. |
