Summary Part 1. "There is a growing concern for adverse effects of untreated discharge from concentrated animal feedlot operations (CAFOs) in the Midwestern states. Ample data exist to show that waste discharge from livestock operations is a major contributor to the contamination of surface water systems. A fluidized-bed combustion system was designed and fabricated in our laboratory for treatment of the waste from livestock operations. Fuel for the burner is derived from the livestock wet-waste slurry"--Abstract, leaf iii.
Part 2. "Rice hulls are abundant in nature. These agricultural wastes are one of the richest sources of silica. The silica derived from rice hulls could be used as an insulating material. The heat resisting ability of silica particles make them very good insulating materials. The purity of silica and the low cost of production of silica are the main factors of interest in producing silica from rice hulls"--Abstract, leaf iii.
