| Summary |
"Oak and Pine are two predominate wood species that are readily available in Missouri. In particular, both red and white oak provides an excellent wood fiber for potential use in a wood based composite. In addition numerous fly ash types and compositions exist as a by-product from the power industry i Missouri. With the synergistic interaction of these two readily available materials that have traditionally been disposed of in landfills, the possibility for their use in a green construction material exists as a potential cost effective construction material. The objective of this project was to investigate the mechanical properties as well as the durability characteristics of this alternative "green" wood fiber-fly ash composite material for the production of masonry block units. Fly ash obtained from a locally available power plant is combined with wood fibers from white oak and the resultant matrices were subjected to a comprehensive laboratory review of engineering properties"--Abstract, leaf iii. |
