Summary "Oak and Pine are two predominate wood species that are readily available in Missouri. In particular, both red and white oak provides an excellent wood fiber for potential use in a wood based composite. In addition numerous fly ash types and compositions exist as a by-product from the power industry i Missouri. With the synergistic interaction of these two readily available materials that have traditionally been disposed of in landfills, the possibility for their use in a green construction material exists as a potential cost effective construction material. The objective of this project was to investigate the mechanical properties as well as the durability characteristics of this alternative "green" wood fiber-fly ash composite material for the production of masonry block units. Fly ash obtained from a locally available power plant is combined with wood fibers from white oak and the resultant matrices were subjected to a comprehensive laboratory review of engineering properties"--Abstract, leaf iii.
