| Summary |
"The annual inspection of control rods at the UMR Reactor (UMRR) is performed manually using a feeler gauge to measure the bow of the rod and via visual inspection to identify pits. The inspection tasks are performed to semi-quantitatively estimate the service life and in-service compliance of the control rod. Since these conventional inspection methods yield subjective results, and in the process personnel receive a radiation dose, there is a need to automate this task in order to reduce personnel exposure and institute a quantitative means of inspection. The objectives of the present work were to automate this inspection task by using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to measure bow and applying machine vision to identify pits"--Abstract, leaf iii. |
