Summary "In this thesis, the impact of capacity tightness, information sharing, and reliability on the delivery reliability and cost in a supply chain with alternate suppliers is investigated. A hypothetical supply chain model is constructed for hypothesis testing using Arena [superscript Trademark] Simulation and Microsoft VBA [superscript Trademark]. The model extends the use of information sharing into the realm of reliability information sharing among supply chain members. Sharing internal reliability information with a downstream entity acts to reduce supply uncertainty. Reliability Information sharing refers to the sharing of three pieces of information that deal with the ability to deliver to the downstream entities. The first piece of information is that a failure has occurred. The second piece of information is the level of inventory. Finally, the status of the order is shared. The Reliability Information can then be used to alter the transportation lead time via a change of transportation mode or for real time order revision with an alternate supplier"--Abstract, leaf iii.
